Julia F. Storm

Agromedicine Information Specialist

Agromedicine addresses the occupational, community, and environmental health and safety concerns of people involved in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries through research, education, and outreach. Extension interests include overall agricultural hazards and injuries, sun exposure, mental health, migrant health, childhood agricultural injury and illness, and pesticide and environmental toxicology. I develop education and outreach materials and programs, serve as a liaison and catalyst for research, and develop and deliver training for North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service field faculty, state agency personnel, and other constituents. I am a faculty member of the NC Agromedicine Institute. I am a leader of several regional Extension efforts, including the SERA-37 The New Hispanic South, an effort to expand Cooperative Extension’s capacity to understand and reach the growing Latino community in the South. Projects include development of the Pesticides and Farmworker Health Toolkit, development of Understanding the Agricultural Health Study, adaptation of the Certified Safe Farm program to NC agriculture, and development of an innovative Latino cultural competency curriculum involving domestic immersion in a the Latino community in the Southeast.
